The focus of the research attention is the concept “own style”, which is defined as a property and a qualification-evaluative characteristic of video blogging products relevant for promoting a blog in the network. The scientific thorough understanding of the style’s phenomenon is multifaceted, because various spheres of human activity are connected with this phenomenon, including creative activity, and various kinds of categories are used for identification style-forming fundamentals. The widest diapason of means of online social interaction distinguishes the semiotics of mass communication today, for this reason style in media studies cannot be defined as a purely language/speech category. Understanding style as a unity of some information content and being objectifying this content forms, being elected by the addresser and being gotten to know by the addressee by the reproduced specificity, made it possible to identify a number of qualification-evaluative criteria by which the stereotypicality/originality of video products in the culinary video blogging cluster can be established. One’s own style in culinary video blogging is being connected with a personalised (reflecting the socially significant personal qualities of the blogger and different from others) mastery of organizing communication, manifested in suitable for the communicator’s character thematic material. The summands of mastery, which act as markers of one’s own style, are determined by the technical and non-technical characteristics of being organizing by the addresser communication. Technical characteristics are demonstrated in the ability to work with a camera, light, color, sound, video and sound’s row editing; non-technical — in the ability to find an idea and suitable material for its implementation, the ability to reveal in a media image one’s individuality, the ability to “feel” the audience, that is, to understand its needs and offer such satisfaction of these needs that stimulates the user of the content to maintain contact.

In modern political and media discourse of countries that claim a leading position in global politics and economy, the concept of a powerful state includes such elements as economic independence, technological advancement, and security. These factors largely depend on the level of development and the extent of artificial intelligence (AI) integration into various aspects of life. This article contrasts narrow and broad interpretations of the term “artificial intelligence” and traces its historical origins. AI is seen as a vital socio-technical institution that shapes the twenty-first century landscape. The growing frequency of use and media coverage of the term indicate the process of mediatizing AI, ideologizing and axiologicalizing the concept, which this article addresses. We have examined the functioning of the term “artificial intelligence” in a comparative context based on data from Russian and Chinese media sources, including the subcorpus of the central Russian-language media and Chinese online news sources. Through a process of cognitive-semantic analysis, we have identified which components comprise the concept of artificial intelligence in these discourses, the areas where AI is applied, and ways to describe it, as well as the evaluative aspects of AI. For each language, we analyzed grammatical structures that form the content listed above, metonymic and metaphorical patterns of AI representation, features of personification of AI in the compared languages, cultural and semantic contrasts of the AI concept, and communicative strategies for creating the ideologeme “artificial intelligence”. As a result of this analysis, both political systems have developed a shared understanding of the concept of a powerful state, whose image includes the notion of AI.

This article explores the challenges of expert linguistic analysis of verbal and nonverbal practices that highlight hidden authorial intentions in polycode news teletext. The study is based on the polycode text of television discourse, which can perform both informational and influencing functions through verbal (auditory and textual) and nonverbal (visual) means in a specific social space. The proposed methodology for comprehensive linguistic analysis, which incorporates discursive, semantic, structural-logical, and conceptual text analysis techniques, as well as comparative analysis of verbal, auditory, and visual components within the polycode teletext structure, allows for the verification of negative information contained in video footage, both in the form of defamatory factual information and evaluative information aimed at shaping negative public opinion regarding the activities of individuals covered by the journalistic teletext. The analysis revealed that the primary structure-forming function in the disputed video text is performed by two multifunctional blocks: video recordings of oral presentations by meeting participants, used by the author of the disputed teletext as a generalized legal platform, and the author’s off-screen oral texts, which integrate several specific sites with buildings shown in the video fragments as violating land and forestry laws into this legal framework. Of greatest interest in terms of updating the verbal and non-verbal practices that reveal the author’s intentions in the disputed teletext are fragments with a dominant visual component, in which the image and verbal part form a complex statement in the form of a statement, in which, through the technique of substitution and narrowing of concepts, new semantic links and references are established, facilitating the realization of the author’s intent.

The growing influence of media communications on social processes, as well as the dominance of multimodal formats of media content, necessitates the development of an interdisciplinary methodological approach focused on the study of social knowledge through the analysis of multimodal media materials. The objectives of the presented study are to substantiate the productivity of the provisions of the theory of social representations of S. Moscovici in the study of media discourse as well as to test the developed cognitive-semiotic approach to the analysis of media texts. In modern society, social representations are formed and transmitted in the process of interaction with the media as a communication channel and a subject. Accordingly, it is reasonable to single out media social representations (MSR) constructed and reflected in media discourse. Media social representations could be objectified through political cartoons. Graphic and lexical means of anchoring and objectification strategies allow us to reconstruct part of the media social representations as components of the collective cognitive space. A total of 72 cartoons created by cartoonists and posted on the website cartoonmovement.com were analyzed. The analytical procedure included thematic analysis, identification of key lexical and graphic means reflecting ideas about the crisis. The strategies of anchoring and objectification were implemented through direct nominations, connotative vocabulary or images of objects, qualities, artifacts, metaphors, basic antinomies, cognitive blending, personification techniques etc. As a result of the thematic analysis, six aspects of the global crisis were identified: energy, the environment, refugees, the economy, food crisis and the global crisis in general. The economic crisis is the core of MSR as it affects people’s basic needs. The reasons for the crisis are the inaction of the authorities and the military conflict. The victims are the countries of Africa, the Global South and the European Union. The perception of current events is dominated by sympathy for the victims, despair, and hopelessness. There is also a clear perception that ordinary people are unable to influence the events taking place and prevent negative consequences.

Network discourse is a complex construct containing various types of transforming and interpenetrating speech genres, where the implementation of the impact function lies in manipulating the addressee’s consciousness, creating an illusory copy of real communication. One of the markers of modern communication on the Internet is the emergence of a new impact factor — a virtual interlocutor, who acts as a secondary parameter of communication compared to real communicants but nevertheless exerts its influence on the general emotional background, for example, using the tactics of meliorative strategies. The purpose of the study is to analyze the techniques and tactics of influence in network discourse, namely, in the social network discourse, considering the new parameter of communication — a virtual interlocutor. The research material was provided by posts published on the personal pages of users on the TenChat social network. In the article, the authors consistently describe and analyze the specifics of the Internet platform TenChat; the types of communicators characteristic of this social network, the communicative intentions and features of the self-presentation of the authors of the content published on the network; tactics and methods of influencing the target audience, as well as the functions and parameters of the impact of the virtual interlocutor ChatGPT. The authors conclude that the use and selection of various linguosemiotic units of influence in the TenChat social network depends on the author’s communicative intention when publishing, which is directly related to his level of interest in using the specified social network to promote his own business. The following functions of ChatGPT comments were identified: 1) encouragement of activity on the social network; 2) actualization of the text published by the author and stimulation of the readership audience to engage in discussion; 3) support and stimulation for the author to continue posting texts.

The article examines the main aspects of the French-speaking customs media discourse in line with the socio-economic and law enforcement functions of the modern customs service, which plays an important role in ensuring the economic development and security of states. The paper provides an overview of the works of linguists studying the issues of media linguistics at the present stage. The study is based on the example of the French-language customs publication OMD Actualités (WCO News), published in the two official languages of the World Customs Organization, French and English, and intended for customs officials from around the world. The texts of the publication reflect current issues in the field of customs activities, the multidimensional practice of employees in this field, reveal the features of their communicative and cognitive experience, and form a modern French-speaking customs media discourse. The text corpus contains certain linguistic means, including permanent components: customs, customs-legal and customs-economic terminology, as well as variable lexical components: medical, technical, transport vocabulary, vocabulary of professional education, information technology, as well as general scientific terms belonging to the scientific style of speech in general. An important function in the functioning of the French-speaking customs media discourse is performed by linguistic means of expression: stylistically colored vocabulary with both negative and positive connotations, syntactic means: enumeration, anaphoric repetition, as well as metaphors, Anglicisms, Latinisms, phraseological units, antithesis, comparisons. The overpowered factors are interpreted as communicative and pragmatic aspects of the French-speaking customs media discourse. French-language customs media texts possess certain characteristics as a phenomenon that focuses on aspects of customs activities, implementing a phatic type of communication through the information field. The evaluative and interpretative function of customs media texts evokes a response to the information presented — pride in the socioeconomic and law enforcement role of customs.

This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the media discourse surrounding China’s international initiative “Belt and Road” (BRI) in leading Western media, using the theoretical and methodological framework of Symbolic Convergence Theory (SCT). The purpose of the study is to identify the mechanisms through which collective representations of China and its foreign policy strategy are formed, by examining fantasy themes, symbolic constructs, and evaluative strategies present in the English-language media environment. The empirical basis of this study consists of publications from the period 2017 to 2024, selected from major media outlets in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Canada, and Australia. Through fantasy-theme analysis, the study identifies several key types of fantasy themes that reflect differing interpretations of the initiative: positive (international development and cooperation), harmful (debt risks), threatening (Chinese expansion and growing influence), doubtful (conceptual ambiguity and uncertain prospects of BRI), and manipulative (a neo-colonial subtext). The research reveals the rhetorical mechanisms through which these themes are embedded in the media environment and contribute to the formation of stable collective perceptions. Special attention is paid to evaluative strategies, including positive ones (approval, support, idealization) and negative ones (reproach, concern, skepticism, discreditation). These strategies are shown to reinforce a binary opposition between “the West” and “China,” shaping the perception of BRI through political and ideological lenses. The findings confirm that the media discourse on BRI constitutes a symbolic arena in which competing interpretations produce a complex system of shared meanings. At the same time, a gradual shift toward more pragmatic and balanced assessments of the initiative is observed, reflecting the changing international environment.

The relevance of the study is due to the activation of modernization trends in the evolution of the public communicative space in general, and the state of the modern discourse on literature as a mentally and historically conditioned discourse in particular. The purpose of the study is to identify those trends in the development of literary criticism that contribute to the modernization of the tradition and the emergence of new formats, i. e., ways of parameterization and standardization of the corresponding specialized discourse/segment of media discourse as a hypertext, whose functioning is no longer limited to an educational mission. The empirical basis of the study is the Internet resources selected by the method of relevant sampling. The analyzed material allows us to speak about the multilayered and multi-vector transformation of literary criticism under the influence of the most powerful mediatization of the contemporary discourse on literature. From our point of view, the key manifestation of this transformation, which affects the institutional characteristics of literary criticism that have been shaped over centuries, is the actualization of Internet formats as new ways of internal organization of literary and critical texts, which no longer serve educational purposes, but rather promotional or recreational functions. Naturally, the intentionality of a new literary and critical text determines its linguistic form. At the same time, textual components can remain quite traditional (other people’s speech, precedent phenomena, evaluative resources, contact-setting and intermediary means), but today their impact potential is directed not so much at conceptualizing the meaning of the reviewed work, as at the verbal presentation of the categories of authorship and the addressee. The research perspective is associated with the possibility of analyzing the impact of the mediatization of literary criticism on literary discourse, on the national mental space, on the technological characteristics of literary criticism.

One of the current areas of research in the field of school shooting is the study of imitation mechanisms. This interdisciplinary subject attracts the attention of specialists from different fields of knowledge: sociologists, psychologists, linguists, criminologists and data scientists. The study of warning behavior to successfully prevent an attack is inseparable from the study of the imitation mechanism. Such warning behavior signals are contained in written messages left by school shooters in both online and offline communication. In this paper, we focus on an experiment with case studies of written messages from known school shooters. The aim is to identify linguistic markers of warning behavior using computational linguistic techniques. The study identified signs of cognitive bias, various emotions, intentions and named entities using open source pre-trained natural language analysis models. In order to separate meaningful markers of warning behavior from written communication common features, open text datasets were also processed, including social and news media texts, collections of essays, blogosphere posts and literary works. The study revealed the following characteristic features inherent to the texts of school shooters: (1) the predominant presence of cognitive distortion ‘personalization’ signs in comparison with the corpus of texts not directly related to the topic of school shooters; (2) the presence of an exceptional number of anger signs and a significant number of sadness signs; (3) in addition to asocial and destructive intentions, also intentions with explicitly positive connotations occupy a significant place in the texts of shooters; (4) texts contain statistically significantly higher proportions of all toxicity categories. Despite a number of used methodology limitations, we note that the results obtained should be taken into account when developing tools for the prevention of school shooting attacks.
