The article presents the results of an experiment aimed at determining the characteristics and objects of user interest in the elements of a scientific Internet text as a sign of active perception of its content and correct understanding. User interest is treated in the article as a direct marker of active perception of scientific Internet text and can be understood as a condition of correct understanding of the content of the material. On the basis of the multimodal approach and the author’s complex methodology (experiment using videoculographic analysis, UXmethodologies, semi-structured interview and comparative analysis) the data on operational user actions in relation to the text and verbal reflection on its content and formal properties were obtained, which made it possible to draw conclusions about the peculiarities of perception and understanding of the text by different groups of users. The article discusses the nature of the effects of affordances on the algorithms for working with the content of the text. The authors conclude about the correlation between the nature of interaction with the scientific Internet text, the user’s precedent experience and some material and semiotic properties of the text. The greatest interest of users is illustrations syncretically integrated into the text of the article, and pop-up comments that explain or clarify semantic fragments of the text or complex terminology. The smallest interest for readers is the annotation of the article and keywords. The authors conclude about the conservative scenario of digital reading of scientific articles, in which users mainly expect such elements of a scientific Internet text as annotations and keywords to be embodied like the “offline”. The authors formulate the hypothesis that the semantic effects that occur because of the performing or imperfect of operational actions can vary from the features of the focus of interest to constructing a specific semantic model of the perceived text.

The main purpose of this article is to identify the main thematic categories and semantic symbols used by military personnel to convey information about their activities in Ukraine and the political processes around this conflict. The relevance of the research lies in the need to understand and analyze the metaphorical code, which is one of the key elements of military personnel communication with the audience and which can have a significant impact on the perception of armed conflicts. The problem of the article lies in the difficulty of deciphering and understanding the metaphorical code, especially for non-professionals in the field of linguistics. A study of the publications of three Russian war correspondents for the period from February 2022 to January 2023 was conducted. Among the general array of publications, those in which the author’s position is most clearly traced were selected. The article presents a decoding of the most striking metaphors from the analyzed texts. Content analysis was chosen as the main research method, supplemented by a meaningful analysis of military personnel publications. Based on the results of the study, the author concludes that there are several main thematic categories used by military officers in their publications: military operations and conflicts; political agreements and treaties; patriotism and national identity; treason and deception; potential and prospects for development; resource and economic issues. The main purposes of using metaphors can be called: creating an emotional response; forming empathy for victims and participants of military operations; strengthening the impact and memorability of the message; warning about the possible consequences of the conflict and mobilizing the audience for active actions; forming a negative image of the enemy.

This article deals with the methods for explaining special genetic-related terms used in the media as the main concept elements of popular science discourse. The relevance of the chosen topic is due to the need to study the understanding degree of such methods by a non-specialized audience, as well as to estimate the correctness of scientific data transmission. The study sources included popular scientific texts about genetics published in the following media during 2017–2023: “Meditsina obo mne”, “RBK Trendy”, “Teorii i praktiki”, the heading “Nauka” of the TASS news agency, “Biomolekula” and “Nauchnaia Rossiia”. The first stage included the identification and classification of defining methods for the following terms: “genetics”, DNA, RNA, “gene”, “allele”, “genetic polymorphism”, “epigenome”, “epigenetics”, “mutation” and “phenotype”. At the second stage the questionnaire was engaged. It was aimed at assessing the recipients’ understanding of identified defining methods for explaining the genetic-related terms. The results obtained included: 1) eight methods for defining genetic-related terms (the definition itself, the inversive definition, the orientating definition, the analogy, the metaphor, the commentary, the etymologization and the illustration); 2) identification and description of their main features (including factors influencing the correct scientific data transmission); 3) recognition of the methods which ensure the best understanding of definitions by the audience (based on the results of the survey: the definition itself, the orienting definition and the metaphor). The authors conclude that the distribution of reliable scientific information via mass media can be achieved by maintaining a balance between two tendencies: to bring the definition closer to the scientific one and to oversimplify it. The latter only leads to a partial loss of the original meaning.

The article regards a polydimensional (cognitive-discursive, pragmatic-linguistic, structuralsemantic, derivaional) analysis of language signs of secondary nomination as a means of conducting information warfare. The research material, which was first introduced into scientific discourse, features lexical and word-formation innovations in the blog texts and Telegram channels covering the events of the special militatry operation and united by the commonality of topics, axiological attitudes of communicants, their active interaction with each other, aiming at changing the worldview of the addressee. As a result of the conducted research, the author identified the characteristic features of the analyzed linguistic signs of the secondary nomination, due to the specifics of the discourse in which they function: frequency, close correlation with current political and economic events, negative evaluation directed at the opponent of the confrontation, manipulative function, rapid transition of individual author’s nominations to the status of the usual speech means of the discourse participants. The cognitive-discursive mechanisms of creating individual author’s marks of secondary nomination are considered: hyperbolization based on the manipulative method of replacing the mode of possibility with the mode of inevitability in order to actualize the conceptual zone “inevitable death”; modeling anachronies based on the conceptual combination of the realities of modern Ukraine with the realities of Nazi Germany, the events of the Second World War and the activities of the junta; nominations based on metonymy, the inner form of which are cognitive signs that damage the image of certain politicians. It is proved that metaphorization and metonymization play a role in the implementation of manipulative cognitive-discursive techniques of informational and psychological influence. The article describes the word-formation tools involved in forming connotative meanings of individual author’s marks of the secondary nomination, determined by the intentions of the authors as actors of the information war. The study used cognitive-discursive, communicative-pragmatic, structural-semantic methods, as well as methods of contextual and word-formation analysis.

The article considers the methods of speech influence of authors of popular video blogs of historical and cultural topics on the audience of the Internet space. The effectiveness of communication with blog subscribers allows their authors not only to form a loyal audience around them, but also to become “opinion leaders”. The purpose of this study is to determine the linguistic and rhetorical techniques by which bloggers provoke discussion and draw attention to the topics raised. The subject of the study was both bloggers’ statements and the perlocutive effect of their influence on the audience in the form of blog comments, and the reaction of blog addressees, which was revealed in the course of questionnaire survey of different age groups. At the first stage, the topics and the name of blogs were determined. At the second stage, based on the results of the answers with examples given by the respondents, the voyeuristic mechanism of bloggers’ speech was determined. The respondents recalled examples containing elements of influential speech, characteristic and memorable for the blogger’s speech portrait words and expressions, which at this stage of analysis showed the formation of conditional reactions to the influential speech and a priori evaluation of the speaker, regardless of the topic and content of subsequent speeches. The study of the linguistic material of blog comments was conducted as a one-stage continuous sampling of all comments on the date of viewing. The comments contained reactions of evaluations of bloggers’ speech behavior, style and character of their statements, direct repetitions of speech fragments. The comparison of deterministic units showed the coincidence of reactions to the selected types of bloggers’ speech behavior techniques in all groups of respondents. In the course of the study it was found out that the impact on the audience is achieved not only through linguoritorical means proper, but also through other techniques. As a result of the study, the reactions to the speech impact in blogs of each technique used in each age group were analyzed and described.

The purpose of the study: to analyze the content and tone of media materials about Russia in Chinese media discourse, to understand what scientific and technological aspects of Russia are in the focus of Chinese media and to explain their actualization. The author of the article hypothesizes that the analysis of Chinese media discourse allows us to identify strategically important areas and identify trends in Russian-Chinese cooperation. Based on the results of a search query on the Knowledge Resource Library (CNKI) platform, from 43,300,000 results, the author selected text materials devoted to Russian science and technology in Chinese media. Based on the results of a search query conducted by the author on the Knowledge Resource Library (CNKI) platform, the study took into account 3,547 materials selected by the keyword “Russia” in the text or title of the material. The resulting material was ranked by the number of publications in various Chinese media. Based on the results of quantitative selection, the object of the study is publications in the Science and Technology Daily newspaper, which is the official mouthpiece of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China. The article is devoted to the analysis of the development of Russian-language television broadcasting in the Republic of Tajikistan in the context of deepening political, economic and cultural ties with the Russian Federation. The relevance of the study is due to the desire of the state to maintain the status of the Russian language as a means of interethnic communication and management of the language situation in the country. The purpose of the article is to analyze how Russian-language television broadcasting contributes to the implementation of the objectives of the state language policy in Tajikistan. The main attention is paid to the role of television in the popularization of the Russian language, its influence on the development of bilingualism and the integration of Tajik labor migrants into the Russian linguistic and cultural environment. The state language policy of Tajikistan is aimed at the development of the state language — its active use in government institutions, education and the media. At the same time, support and development of Russian as a language of interethnic communication and other languages represented on the territory of the republic is also ensured. Support for the Russian language and Russian-language broadcasting is seen as a tool for maintaining balance in the linguistic space. This makes it possible to neutralize the growing influence of the Iranian language, which is actively disseminated through Iranian-language television channels, which often broadcast political and ideological guidelines that are prohibited in Iran itself. As part of the study, the following tasks were set: to assess the current state of Russian-language television broadcasting in Tajikistan, analyze its impact on the development of the Russian language in the country, identify the significance of Russian-language content for migration policy and cultural adaptation. Television was chosen as the object of study because of its high popularity among the population, which is confirmed by research data on media preferences. The TV viewing barometer shows the highest levels of television popularity among the media. Therefore, the country occupies a leading place in Central Asia in this indicator. The empirical basis of the study was official documents regulating the features of the language policy of the Republic of Tajikistan, statistical data and measurement results, as well as materials from a survey and questionnaire conducted by the author of the article. Qualitative and quantitative research methods were used for the analysis, including content analysis, comparative method and interpretation of sociological data. Research results. The analysis showed that Russian-language television broadcasting in Tajikistan, thanks to two large local television providers, has strengthened its position in large cities. In remote areas it has become difficult to reach. Watching programs in Russian contributes to more successful language acquisition, which, in turn, facilitates the adaptation of labor migrants to life in Russia, including understanding its legislation and culture. Russian-language broadcasting helps strengthen the position of the Russian language and develop linguistic and cultural ties between Tajikistan and Russia.
